Have you ever been to Cork City? Christmas is a very special time of the year to visit us, whether it’s your first or 51st time. The city is lit up by thousands of twinkling lights, bustling with excited shoppers and the streets are filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas. We’ve picked a few of our favourite activities in the city this year to make sure you see the highlights of Christmas in Cork on your trip.

Glow 2018

This year sees the return of Corks much loved Christmas festival, Glow which opens on 30th November and runs each weekend until 22nd December. The festival is hugely popular, visited by a whopping 160,000 people in 2017! The market is host to some of the best national and international food offerings to warm you up while you browse the many market stalls. You can also enjoy stunning views of our city from the giant Ferris Wheel and an array of musical performances from some of Cork’s talented singers and bands on the Grand Parade. It’s a great day out for the whole family.

Bishop Lucey Park

No trip to Glow is complete without a trip to Bishop Lucey Park for their spectacular Winter Wonderland lighting display. The theme this year is ‘The Night Before Christmas in Old Cork’ and the park is incredibly transformed into a Christmas village complete with Santa’s house, post office and a ‘real-life’ snowman! The park is a great place to create great Christmas memories with your little ones or as an alternative date idea.

Mother Jones Market

If you are looking for an alternative Christmas present this year, Mother Jones Market is the place to go. Forget buying the usual socks for Dad or the same old scarf for Mam, find something unique and filled with character at this fantastic market. You’ll meet some salt of the earth Corkonians browsing and selling their wares, Friday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. You can pick up everything from clothing and home-wares to antiques and sweets. When you’re all shopped out, enjoy a break in the coffee shop which often has live music from local bands.

English Market

We know we may be biased but we believe the English Market is easily the best indoor food market in Ireland! The market is at the heart of the city and is a huge tourist attraction. Its famed for its incredible mid-19th century architecture and locally produced artisan food. It’s most famous products are it’s fresh fish and butchers which supply a lot of the city’s top restaurants. If you are looking for the perfect locally-sourced ingredients to really set this years Christmas dinner apart from the rest, you’ve found the right spot.

Cask Cork

Our favourite way to celebrate Christmas is to settle down in a cool bar, enjoy some festive drinks and catch up with friends. If this is your idea of a Christmas treat, pop into Cask on your way home from work, on a Saturday evening or any time that suits you over the silly season. Our cocktail menu changes every 12 weeks to reflect the seasonal changes and this month we have seasonally inspired hot punch on tap.
