Oh October! The evenings are closing in! The kids are back in school. Gone are our balmy summer evenings. There is a definite chill in the air. We are surrounded by autumnal lushness. One might be forgiven for feeling at somewhat of a loss as to what to do with ourselves. Well fear not, there is no need to go into complete hibernation zone just yet. Cork city and county still has an abundance of things on offer and our boutique city-centre hotel is the perfect base for all of your upcoming adventures.

Let me introduce my latest discovery to you: Trabolgan! Located a scenic 33 minute drive from Hotel Isaacs, this activity village ticks all the boxes for those of you looking for something a little different, something off the beaten track and perhaps a bit more active than blitzing the stores on Patrick’s Street.

What to do there? Well, a better question would be what can you not do there? This activity centre really has absolutely everything for everyone regardless of age or interest. My personal favourite is the adventure sports centre encompassing a climbing tower, zip-lining and abseiling experience. It’s tough! It’s gruelling! It’s slightly terrifying but it certainly gets the adrenaline pumping on a Saturday morning! For those that prefer to keep their feet planted firmly on solid ground, there is go-karting and a laser-combat experience. Or for the Robin Hood fan, why not hit the target with a game of archery? Part of a group and fancy some friendly competition? Visit the nearby sports hall where visitors can play tennis/badminton and basketball or drive yourself a little crazy on their crazy golf course.

If furthering your mind is more your thing, there is a Birds of Prey Centre on site at the top of the golf course (yes, another potential activity) where you can see falcons, hawks and the world’s largest breed of owl. Want to get your hands dirty? Paint your own pottery at Crafty Hands Pottery Studio- definitely an alternative to the standard fridge magnet souvenir!

Of course, the fun doesn’t stop there! Feeling lucky? The main centre also has a bowling alley and arcade. Or why not finish your day with a trip to their Pool Paradise, which also encompasses a toddler’s pool and super waterslide. Should I mention that they also have a wave machine? Who needs to wait for the warm temperatures to return to experience the fun of the ocean? Cool off with an ice-cream from Waves Ice-cream Parlour.

Breathless yet? I know I am! That is exactly how a day at Trabolgan will leave you feeling. Perfect for both families with young kids but equally couples looking for some alternative date activities or even groups looking for some competitive action. Trabolgan is a one-stop shop for fun, adventure and adrenaline!

Discounted day passes are available on their website. Please note that Trabolgan closes for the 2018 season on November 4th 2018.

About The Author

Colette is a hotel receptionist working at Hotel Isaacs Cork. Her favourite part of the job is meeting the many guests coming from all corners of the globe and sharing with them all the wonders that Cork City and County has to offer. One of her great passions is travelling and exploring new places especially museums, galleries and castles. "One of the things I feel very strongly about is how so many people in Ireland are completely unaware of some of the hidden treasures right on their door-steps. When people go abroad, they push themselves to see all the cultural delights on offer but too often, they have no idea how great what is right in front of them, readily available every day is. I came to Cork as a student in 2008 and I too limited myself and didn't push myself to explore. It took a friend to take me off and show me how truly amazing this city and county is and this is what I want to share with my guests and readers.
