The Cork Opera House is home to some of the most popular plays, pantos, gigs and of course Operas in Cork. Built-in 1855 the Cork Opera House has long been an important fixture to Cork city. Having stood during some of the most historic times in Cork such as the attacks in 1920 during the war of independence, the opera house burnt down in 1955 and was not reopened until 1965. In 2003 the building itself went through a large renovation and houses all types of performances.
